Hospice Homes Given the choice, most people would prefer to die at home, in the company of family and friends who love them. But not everyone can, or desires to, live out their last days at home. The burden of care can overwhelm a family, there may be no relatives or friends to help, or there may be no home at all. Hospice Homes provide a natural, home-like environment for patients who want to live in a facility managed by Hospice of Michigan. Patients might choose this option if they live alone and prefer to be around other people, if family members need to work or if the primary caregiver is also in poor health. Hospice Home residents are encouraged to bring personal effects to create an atmosphere that is comfortable and familiar. Every effort is made to accommodate individual food tastes and dietary requirements. Although Hospice Homes are designed, decorated and maintained to reflect the feeling of a private home, each facility is also able to provide state-of-the-art palliative care to its residents. Most insurance plans cover the cost of hospice services. Room and board fees are the responsibility of the patient and family. Medicaid covers some of the room and board fees for eligible patients.
